TC Encore hinge pins...

I have read some on the topic. Some think it's a really big deal and claim wonderous things about perfectly tight pins. If that is true a "collet" style pin remedies the situation with zero fuss for about $25-30. I do not like them as you have to keep an allen key handy to remove, I'm too scatterbrained for that. But no lapping and fitting or such some love to crow about. No matter how whonky the hole using a collet. Bellm sells all sorts of different size pins that gives me a headache, as do some others. That has to make them gun specific and I don't really like that. The entire selling point of the TC is interchangeability!

I just use whatever I have. I DO like to be able to remove the barrel without having to scrounge a special tool to beat it out in the field. I gave Doug a pin from one of my other guns (how do you lose a hinge pin?!!) and his gun shot fine with my pin. So I need another. I found them from $5 - $50!

One useful tip I saw was using a 1/2" square of aluminum duct work tape over each side of the frame and pin. Not only does this keep it from walking but it does not rotate. That sounds favorable and plausible. The stuff is cheap and while it sticks like burrs on a Beagle it is removed easily with a fingernail and leaves no residual. I might try that. At least it will look trick.

What is the general consensus? Is there magic in the Encore hinge pin?
