The ohter two of us Three Stooges had

a little fun today. I inherited an AR15 16" carbine from a friend. It has this modified "gas piston" conversion done on it. I examined it closely. They first torque the barrel nut to align the "gas tube" hole in the upper and barrel nut sprocket to a very high amount. This is for the piston rod to pass through as it pushes on a blanked off bolt/gas key on the bolt assy. It looks like a blow back 9mm part but has the locking bolt head.

The front half uses only about 2" of a gas tube and mates with a new gas block attachment, collars, captive spring, and gas piston rod. It looks simple enough. I noted the special reinforced hand guards included with the kit that would seemingly afford some protection if it all went North! It didn't look fired, ever. I found only minimal information on the net about the TN bunch that USED to market it as a kit. Sort of makes it like an AK or SKS in operation.

Roman and his little minon brother Benjamin propped, aligned, and literally duct taped it to the shooting table today while I was at work. With a string run behind MY farm truck they blasted 3 proving rounds. All went well. I'm still a bit skeptical. I do have the original gas impingement pats too. I gave the gun to Benj and Roman has been intrigued ever since.

I've created little monsters! It reminds me of putting electronic ignitions on old motorcycles. They work wonderfully, until they don't.
