or some of the AK's. You can shoot steel ammo that was buried a Bugarian farmer's field in 1944 and dug up in 1994 and sold for surplus. Can't do anything more to them than what they are.
You can still buy AR barrels for $70. Choot it!

The steel is mild steel, much softer than the gun steel. It takes a whole lot to begin to wear on anything. Plus it would just be good to put back for emergency! I can change an AR barrel in 30 minutes from stripped to strapped, and I’m not smart. Modular has its advantages. Red Dawn time who cares?!
if it was mine

i would keep it .my friend has a very large amount of brass cased .556 stashed. and he told me not to worry if i need any . and just wants to sell the steel stuff .i have a old sks that i've had since 1991 and has shot many cases of steel cased ammo[i would guess 20,000 rounds or more ] with no ill affect
My son lets it lay in the yard for me to find with the lawn

mower. I saw on Mythbusters that a small lawn mower can project gravels at up to 400 fps. I'm not sure what a 26 hp one can throw a 7.62x54R at but it's fast and far. Usually at a cherished motorcycle or one of the automobiles in the drive.
I pitch them over in the woods. Some archeologist in the future will one day wonder what sort of battle ensued at this unlikely place! LOL
me either Huey. I won't shoot thaty crap in my ARs. We get

ARs in all the time with roughed up chambers and gouged up feed ramps from steel cased ammo.
Those bi-metallic bullets will destroy rifling too...

I've seen several guns ruined oner that ammo.
