Reeder Custom Guns

I am going to have to change the scopes on a couple of handguns. Old age and bad eyes are forcing me to go up in magnification from my 2 and 3 power.
There is a 10x Burris (fixed) on GB. It is a long scope with an adjustable parallax.
Is anyone familiar with this one?
I have never seen one like it.

the 10x magnification they are very good scopes. On a 10x scope FOV is cut back some .

I don't think you'd like it. Sean is a little understated in the FOV cut back, what maybe 15-20' wide view at 100 yds, less? It's not in the same region as your 2-3x. The 4X is a good step up and variables work well for all but the real heavy kickers.

What platform are you using?

Funny you should ask,one of them is a 10" 7gnr
like you asked about recently. I don't own a chrono
but it seems fine to me.
The other is a 460 S & W revolver.
I was afraid you are right about the 10x.
It is a good price if anyone has a use for it.
I was looking for variables but man have they gotten high.
I wanted Burris, Leupold or Nikon.
Do you have any other recommendations?

are fine too. Some sleeper rigs are the Simmons 2-6x if you can find one. Also the Simmons 4X fixed is a fantastic underrated buy. A new one for around $100 is a deal!

Burris is the handgun scope king in my view as to offerings. They had a 5x,6x,7x fixed too at one time.

Really in the woods and general use a good 4X is great. Plenty good enough for the platform's intended range and use. Plus you can find game much more quickly. Mostly it's not just standing around. I have a little trouble in the woods with a 4X under 25 yds. but anywhere else it's great.

I put one on an xp-100 in .221 fireball back in the mid 80's for prairie dog shootin'.
It is THE hardest pistol scope out there to use. Eye relief is super critical; with less than 2" of sweet spot for full view. At the same time, I had a super 14 Contender in .223 that I put a 7x Burris on; a much easier scope to use.
Even the 3-9x Burris and the newer 3-12x Burris scopes are easier to shoot than the old 10x.

I only use them for long shots where I am lying prone and the gun is on a sandbag. The 10X is not a long eye relief (LER) scope, it is an intermediate eye relief (IER) and is best used from a bench or lying prone. I like the scope but in the same breath I hate it. It takes a lot of getting used to it. The new 4X12 Burris is also an intermediate eye relief and takes some getting used to. For the most part I just stick with my single power Burris scopes, 2x, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 7X. I blew one up a few years back on a Nilgai (I ended up drowning him) and sent it back to Burris for their "lifetime warranty" and they wouldn't fix it. Said they no longer had parts for it. That sorta soured me on Burris scopes even though I still use them.

Thanks, Gary. I believe I heard they were going to stop making handgun scopes all together. If so, I bet they won't warranty any of them any more based on your experience.
I never thought about drowning the game. Maybe a speargun............
