From GT Bullets. They use a pretty soft alloy, so i powder coat them. I have also used a 225 gr hollowpoint with 375GNR,,,,it vaporizes the bullets on impact. The 375GNR turns the 285gr flat tip bullets inside out in soft sand. So it would depend on the alloy of lead, and the heat treating of the alloy.
The 45 Colt, standard pressure loads expand with both 225 gr hollowpoints and 250 gr hollowpoints from GT Bullets. The alloy softens with powder coating, so thin skinned small critters (jackrabbits) are really dead. Larger critters at higher velocities might not go so well. The 225 gr hollowpoint in 45 Colt, at higher than standard loading in a FA97 id devastating on jackrabbits. I’ve disemboweled completely more than one, and punched large holes in others. The 475 Linebaugh didn’t need any expansion on jackrabbits, The exit wounds are about the same size with a hollowpoint 45 Colt at standard velocity, and a 475 Linebaugh flat tip (375 grain from Montana Bullet Works)
You are probably asking about larger game, and i haven’t done any of that, but i hope this kinda answers your question a little bit.
Merry Christmas!
P.S. where did you find hollowpoint bullets for a 475? Or do you have a mold?
