My youngest son is a diesel mechanic and a few days ago one of his friends asked us to help do some work at his grandfather’s farm. For some reason it seems like my phone rings when people have heavy or large objects to move. We dropped a couple of trees, cut them up for firewood, cleared some brush and repaired some fences. The old gentleman and his wife were so thankful that folks would do so much work and ask for nothing in return. The old gentleman was listening to his grandson and I talking about handguns and specifically hunting with handguns. I told his grandson that my dad started me out shooting his Model 10’s and K-38 when I was a youngster....cast bullets with Bullseye or Unique. The conversation turned to cast bullets. I told the young man that casting bullets was something I always enjoyed but it’s getting a bit more challenging to find good old wheel weights these days.
The old gentleman got a big grin and asked me if I would take a few wheel weights for all of my help. I didn’t expect much but thought if I said no that he would be insulted. So I said yes sir that would be fine. As Paul Harvey said “And now for the rest of the story”. He takes me out to his barn and tells me that he would be grateful if I would take what he has since it has been taking up space for years. Turn out the old gentleman once was a mechanic too. Had a garage and did a bunch of tire repairs in the late 50’s through the 70’s. I ended up with seven 5 gallon buckets full of lead wheel weights!! God is so good and always has a way of blessing those who help others who are not able to do things for themselves or are unable to afford it. He also invited me to hunt his property whenever I want.....which is an extra blessing because the place never gets hunted. I plan on paying him back by giving him the first deer I harvest at his farm and half of what I get for as long as he and his wife are still alive. One act of kindness surely deserves another.....best of all, I made a new friend.

GOD is good , in my experience a 5 gal bucket of lead is clo

black powder shooting. I gave him two buckets because he does lots of little things to help some of the older people in our area. COVID really hurt his income but he helps some older folks by mowing for them, clearing tree branches from their yards, and plowing open their driveways and clearing their sidewalks. Thought sharing what I was blessed to be given with him would be a way of sharing God’s goodness with others. I didn’t weigh them, but you’re probably about right...they will make enough bullets to last me the rest of my days roaming this earth.

I love stories with happy endings.. or continuings ...

around like a man 25 years younger. His wife is a gem too.....reminds me of my mom. A tiny rail thin Mennonite lady.....has all kinds of things she canned herself. A bunch of canned beef and fruit.....plus a PA Dutch favorite......chow chow (canned pickled vegetables). He has an old John Deere tractor that my son is going to rebuild for him. His retirement has be active and productive. Has been a beekeeper for the last 20 years and has one heck of a blueberry patch. Just loves being active and productive. The world would be a much better place if it had more people like him.
