Christmas afternoon with the Winchester 44-40...
I'll pay for this tomorrow. It's sunny and 60° here. The shooting bench has been calling my name all morning.
I'd reloaded a bunch of Coated Cast Bullets over a healthy charge of Unique. Velocity was 1400 fps with the 240s.
Recoil isn't bad, but this thin t-shirt and that rounded, steel buttplate will leave bruises. The results were well worth it.
Took a little fiddling to get the windage just right. Elevation was easy as always. This was completed at 25 yards, then the target was moved to 75 yards. Time to test aging eyes and the Marble's Bullseye Sight.
Surprisingly, the gun was hitting high. Lowered the ramp one notch and was dead on.
Minute of Diet Coke Can was without effort. It's was so enjoyable, I just kept shooting.
I'll probably just stick with this load unless I do a Bison Hunt. I've got several guns more appropriate for such a hunt, but this one might get the nod.

With cowboy loads. I did slip out with the Wichita and my form loads. It was more recoil than I expected! I’m so used to Gary’s effective muzzle brakes. Perhaps Mag-an-porting. This case will be a .300 GNR, it’s toast. I did overwork the shoulder forming this one. But it shows me the shape.
