and I think the total coated Alox is a good way to go if a bit smokey. Most bullets are lubricated at almost the base where the need for lubrication is over. Also I have pulled pistol bullets out of the backstop with all most all of the lube still seemingly in the grooves.

I'd figure with cast bullets the centrifugal forces would "sling" the lube out of the lube groove and onto the bore to be consumed. But I think the bullet "skins" it right out the bore with it, lubing the last 1/10" of the bullet at best.

Pure lead ML maxi-bullets have massive lubrication grooves, more or that than what actually touches the bore. I have witnessed that it does keep the bore soft and greasy. This makes the second loading nice and smooth, ensuring a good next shot.

One of my favorite lubricants is "Coconut" oil. You can eat it (I do a lot), cook with it, put it on a squeaky door, or lubricate literally anything you want slick. Lovely fun stuff. I might try my own alox, beeswax, coconut, blend. Perhaps throw in a colored crayon in for character.
