Reeder Custom Guns - Huey, my 1873 that I absolutely love which shoots high

I think I can manage a solution. I desire to shoot slow cowboy loads from it at around 1000 fps. It hits 6" high at 25 yds. and 18" at 100. I plan on making a blue steel taller front sight to "glue" to the front of my existing front sight with 5-min epoxy. I might even fabricate some flat metal sides to make ears, taller than the actual sight, for protection. Like a military rifle.

It will not deface the gun as silver solder would nor make any irreversible changes.

Blade is soldered in that. It’s a little rectangular block in front of the carbine barrel band. It makes a nice flat to stick a sheet piece to. I may even hand fab a bead.

I guess the .44 barrel is too thin on this model to file a dovetail. Or so the powers that be determined.

I can't get it to work consistently no matter what. Even when I get the sights right, they string vertically. You absolutely have to hold the gun the same every shot. The longer it takes a bullet to exit the barrel, the more likely you are to move.

I have a FWB 124 that literally will keep it on a nickel at 50 yds. If you can hold it, I'm not joking! It's nothing to peg 1/5 size steel chickens that has a hit zone not much more than the size quarter.

Ditto for shooting flintlock muzzleloaders. The best tuning is Fuh-boom! You got to wait for the recoil.

MY most difficult thing is the sights. But I'm not goofing with the gun (holes or non-spec sights) to get a better sight picture. A tang sight on a carbine is goofy.

Is it dovetailed into the barrel?....

It’s a block soldered to the barrel, looks like a sight

That extra barrel dwell time will kill you on slow loads...

I shoot piston pellet guns, I sure know about that.
