Something not gun related but is
on my heart to share with you guys. A few days ago I posted about a bunch of wheel weights that God allowed me to be blessed with for helping an older gentleman get some things taken care of around his place. Here’s how God can use a charitable heart... and how He works in the hearts and minds of people. I mentioned that I gave a couple of buckets of the wheel weights to a fellow shooter who has been going through a bit of a rough patch due to COVID. Well I knew of another local fellow who loves his black powder hunting (it’s always been popular in this part of PA). He loved casting his own balls and bullets, but his life has had a few hurdles in the last decade so he used money he spent on shooting and other things to pay his family’s bills. He is a very private and proud person, and never let folks know the extent of his financial situation. For some reason I felt was feeling a little uncomfortable about having somewhere over 500 pounds of wheel weights in my garage. I knew I didn’t really need that much and perhaps God was working on my heart a bit about receiving a blessing and then hoarding it. So I loaded up a couple of buckets and visited the fellow hoping he was still interested in black powder guns. As it turned out, he was almost speechless when I offered him those buckets of wheel weights. He then shared with me some of what his family has endured and dealt with for the last 9 years. I got a grateful handshake and hug from him along with best wishes for my family’s health.... and I left his place feeling like a burden had been lifted off my shoulders by helping someone who needed it but would never ask for help let alone share his burden with others. About an hour after I got home last night I heard my wife talking with someone at the front door and wishing them a happy New Year. Turns out it was that gentleman who stopped by to give us a bottle of wine. I caught him before he could make it out of the driveway and thanked him for the gesture. He then invited me to bring my grandkids over to his place anytime I want so they can fish in his pond.....my grandkids love fishing but I never mentioned it in any conversation with him.
So here is the challenge for you guys. We all have experienced or have been impacted by the shortages of reloading supplies, ammunition, and guns. Nothing wrong with having a good stock of those things, but I think all of us know of people who ridiculously hoard things in mind numbing quantities. Stop and consider there are fellow hunters and shooters who are really in a pinch or just can’t afford those things in this present world of panic and hysteria. Consider helping those folks out....it is a hand up and not a hand out. Remember we share a common bond and interest with them.....hunting and shooting. I absolutely believe if you are willing to selflessly share with others that God will make sure the right person will walk into your life..... and God will abundantly bless you for showing others what charitable Christian love in action really is. In my case, a day of hard work to help one elderly couple in need has lead to a blessing for me.... and sharing my blessing with others has resulted in so many other blessings to folks who could use them and in turn I feel thankful that God could use a simple country boy like me to let others see his goodness through my willingness to share my blessings. This isn’t a coincidence....just God touching the hearts of people. Perhaps the best saying is what Gary Cooper said in Sgt. York.....”The Lord sure works in mysterious ways”.
