.41 Python

Going through guns international this morning I ran across a Colt Python that has been converted to .41 magnum, looks nice but the $17,000 price tag leaves me out! Has there been a lot of Python's converted to .41? I've never seen one.

surrounding the Python chambered in 41 Magnum. Supposedly Colt did a few and some slipped out the doors, but Colt decided the frame was not up to it so dropped that project. I believe some 'smiths over the years have made a few up, but, IMO, there are better .41 mousetraps (like Ruger and S&W).

I've seen gunsmiths put Python barrels on Ruger frames that seems to be common, I myself prefer the look of the Ruger barrel on a Ruger gun but everyone has there own likes. I just couldn't believe the $17,000 price on this converted Python, I guess if you can get it more power to you.
Last .41 Python I saw was around 1990

At the Little Rock gun show. He had it in a black and red factory box, 6” blued for $600. It had been rebooted, rechambered, and remarked. Some gunsmith in the day was making those.
I know they made two .400 Colt Pythons. I almost bought a cartridge for $50 to collect.

I've always heard the Python's had a pretty fragile lockwork and I don't know how much difference there is in pressure between a 10mm and .357 but my guess is there is not enough metal in the cylinder left after its bored to .40 or .41 to have a strong magnum level gun. I always wanted a SP 101 in 10mm but I just don't think it would work. I have a Charter Arms Boomer in .44 special that has paper thin cylinder walls but your not dealing with much pressure in standard .44 special loads.
