Huey. Thank you very much for the opportunity. I somehow feel blessed that I have a copy of the much vaunted Pioneering Handgun Hunting by the late Mr. Goerg.

Tonight I plan to savor the first chapter like a fine wine or glass of bourbon.

It is also giving me some ideas. That may or may not be a good thing.

It was written at the dawn of the concept. He had a little promotional interest in his ideas but I think he was more driven by how well it worked and wanted to show others. The writing business back then was more powerful, more exclusive, than today. He didn’t fit the click and was largely ignored except by a few.

Enjoy! I’m still tempted to duplicate his old Italian Remington 1858 hunter. I scoped a Lyman Plains .54 and kicked myself silly. All based on his writings. My cap and ball pig at HHC was aligned with meeting his son there too. Very special to me!

It was interesting that he hunted mountain goat in Washington State and shortly afterward the state prohibited handguns for mountain goat.

I do recall that although handgun hunting was legal in most of the USA it was not as universal as it is now, so to speak. To the best of my knowledge, New Jersey is the only state that does not allow handguns for any kind of game. Every state allows some kind of handgun hunting.
