Reeder Custom Guns - Hunting clothes

New Years Eve was the end of the deer season here in Massachusetts. So the next day I more or less washed and put away all of the hunting clothes for the year.

One of the things I would like to do is pare things down to a minimal amount. It seems that if you get into bowhunting you collect a lot of gear and hunting clothes. I have all kinds of camouflage but to me this takes up a ton of space.

I am looking at the black and white images of Al and others. This is what I see what they wore.

Wool. I can see what appears to be whipcord wool pants and a checkered-plaid wool shirt. I know wool whipcord pants are pricey. I believe you'll pay 300 bucks or more today for them but they last forever and they have this unique ability to be comfortable below zero to well above. I know a bit about wool as it is King in New England for outdoor clothing.

So again I am thinking that one set for everything early to mid season and then the woolies for the rest of the year.

I've never really bought a lot of camo, but have a few jackets/pants combos that I don't really use anymore, except for turkey hunting. Many years ago I realized deer were picking me out, not always, but at certain times of the day/evening. usually prime time, just at dark. It happened to much to ignore. Gary at one time posted some pics on here he took with a video camera set on the night shot feature. There was no pattern and you glowed in the dark. This mimic's my finding also. Got a trail camera? Go out at night and have your picture taken, you'll see what I'm talking about. I have switched to wool jackets, Lightweight wool is no warmer at 70 degrees than your high tech camo. medium and heavy weight wool for colder temps and layering will keep you warm. I live in Wisconsin so I have experience in a multitude of weather conditions. My color choice gets the camera treatment so I know its actually breaking me up some to the deer's eyes. More so when I'm in the field with traditional archery than anything else, as handguns and rifles, give me, a bit of distance, to my advantage also. Try the camera thing, I'm betting you'll whittling down your wardrobe substantially.

I had US Army surplus arctic sleeping bag, and arctic long johns and shirt combo. The Army at one time had real wool trousers but I got surplus German army trousers for cod weather, heavy all wool. Army had a wool shirt as well and I used it all when at Graphenwher in the 1980's. Slept in the Bell Motel at night in Northern Canada during combined US and Canada exercise, but I got to see the Northern Lights. I thought I had ingested some LSD when I saw it for the first time!

processor of a trail cam set on night vision? Ive never heard of it, but your clothes will have that glow in that camera instance if you use detergent with UV brightener additives, which most do. I use the kind that doesn't. Besides, deer have very poor vision, like 20/100 but they do have the ability to pick up movement easily and see the blue color spectrum the best...so don't wear blue-jeans. Of course, their nose and hearing make up for the poor vision and are the usual ways they detect that you are present. I do use camo in archery, but do agree that its not necessary if you have the wind in your favor and remain still as many times ive had deer come as close as 5 feet from me and never were the wiser.
