Got to shoot just a bit this afternoon...
I ordered (specifically) an inexpensive 3-9x 32mm scope off Amazon. I needed a smaller objective to fit my rings and Marlin 783 without touching the barrel or rear sight. Well I got in a 40mm. I guess they thought they were giving me an upgrade?!
It didn’t fit. So I stuck it on my Volquartsen barreled 10/22. Sighting it in was easy. It does shoot well. Re-sighting the .22 Magnum with some very fast Winchester 30 gr. JHP (2250 fps). It groups about 1/2” at 25 yds. Moving to 100 yds. I typically get two shots within an inch of each other, then one that opens the group some to just under 2”. If I keep at it they generally open to 3” or so.
I know it’s not a target rifle, never intended to be. But I’ve had clip fed models that shot 1.5” groups easily. That’s my goal for the tube repeater.

There is only one stock bolt on a round pillar. I think I can shim the front and bed in front and behind the one point. Then tightening that bolt will bed the action and float the front with the tube.
That’s the plan anyway.

will shoot one ragged hole IF the shooter wouldn't shake so much!

I’ve heard the plastic Rugers really shoot.
I can sell the old walnut stocked Marlin for enough to buy a new Ruger. But if I could tune the old beast to shoot well under 2” at 100 I’d be happy. I’d then spring for a good scope. It’s wearing an old 4x Bushnell now. I need a little more magnification, maybe a good 2-7x.

I have Marlins that are 1/2” at 50 with open sights.
I have a Savage 93 that does that at 100 with a scope. Most rifles don’t need to be bedded, just a good free float is all they need. I sand the stocks where needed.
That is the problem with the tube feed Mariln
It is basically teeter-totter in the stock with that one mid-point stock bolt. I need to fabricate a bed that forces it to "totter" only one direction. Not only am I floating the barrel but the magazine feeding tube under it as well. I don't think the receiver will be stressed. It's mostly a solid tube of steel with that bedding pillar at the front of it.
