Colt Anaconda

for the price, there are lots of better options. The anaconda was never a very strong gun and most of the ones i have handled were not very tight and did not have a solid lock up. When they came out there wasn't ammo like Buffalo Bore or CorBon and it's not made to handle those kind of loads.

I have 2 Anacondas purchased back in the 1990’s. The first one is an 8 inch with a Redfield 1x4 power scope mounted on a B Square mount affixed to the vented rib. I had to use 3 aluminum rings to keep it from sliding on the scope mount . It shoots very well and is quite accurate. I have used it hunting deer here in W PA. It was difficult finding a holster so I use a cheap Uncle Mikes chest carry bandolier. The only negative is that with the scope mounted it is very heavy. My second Anaconda has a 4 inch barrel that I use loaded partially with CCI shot capsules when woods walking in the mountains around my cabin. We have both Copperheads and Rattlesnakes . It too, is rather heavy when carried in a leather belt holster- you need a very sturdy belt.
When these Anacondas were bought they were priced at a little over $400.00. I’m happy with both of mine, but I didn’t pay the high dollar prices that that they seem to command today.

Both in 44 Magnum. Both 6". They were ok. I liked them a lot, didn't love them. And, as WB said, they are very good at getting out of time. I have owned what I consider comparable S&W's and Rugers. To me, the S&W's and Rugers are much better made and sale for a lot less. If I were in the market for another similar frame revolver, I would much rather have a S&W or a Ruger. Just my opinion as someone who has owned a couple.

I had one years ago that shot consistent 6 inch groups at 25 yards regardless of the ammo. Gary worked on it twice and I finally sold it. Go with the Redhawk or 29.

Have had mine for years and fed it a steady diet of Redhawk-level loads and its never hiccupped. Don't believe the interweb rumors that the Colt is a "weak" design. I shoot it right alongside my Redhawk and it keeps up just fine. Here's a John Taffin article:

He Gave one to each of us kids and kept one for himself. Mine was out of time while NIB. Sent it back to colt who promptly fixed it. No problems with the other 3.
