Ran across this on GB. Wonder how close it is to the 450/400 Nitro?
It would probably best it. But, I don't like belted cartridg

In the Encore. That is a TC 405 WCF barrel rechambered. I actually owns one of those barrels that I've never fired.
I bought it and before it was shipped, I found a Ruger #1 in 405 WCF.
In a strong gun, the 405 WCF can be loaded to impressive ballistics. To me, somebody screwed up a good barrel. But, just my opinion..

I think is shoots a little faster than the nitro and it is 41 cal based on the 375
H&H. My son has a 375 H&H it will knock over a train but it kicks like a pissed off mule.
the folks at H&H wanted a cartridge with a lot

more energy than the 375 H&H had. The 400 H&H ended up with around 6000 FPE as opposed to around 4000 FPE in the 375 H&H. The 450/400 also matches the 375 with around 4000 FPE, considerably less than the 400 H&H with 6000. Two of my old books list the 400 H&H as .416 caliber while it was actually .400 caliber so it would be legal for dangerous game in all of Africa.
