Hello Everyone who has hunted wild boar

250 Sierra and if you put it in the right spot you`ll have a dead boar... For me... I have mostly used JHP`s for a little more damage to the vitals... From 240 to 300 grain..
Boar I took using 44 Redhawk 300gr XTP......

250 grain Sierra silhouette bullet. I don't remember any walking away. The old shot between the eyes works wonders for farm piggies but in the bamboo swamps of south Florida you might not get that kind of shot, in fact i almost guarantee you won't. I have taken a few hogs in the swamps of Florida and that load works for me. Mine is chambered in 429 GNR but uses the same silhouette bullet in my Alaskan Hunter single action.

A lot of hogs with just about every viable sixgun cartridge and load. However, my two largest hogs, one over 500 pounds and the other more than 650 were taken with the .44 Special with the Keith bullet hollow pointed and loaded over the Keith powder charge. On the "smaller hog" I got complete penetration from side to side and on his big brother the bullet almost made it all the way through as it was perfectly mushroomed under the hide on the far side. I don't believe your load would be any problem at all.

I shot my first, second and third boar on the last HHC which happened in a sort of humorous way with then Hog Hunter Gary made for me in 44/44mag. Being somewhat disabled I was near the cornfield where the hogs were said to be, and one of our group I went up there with walked over there. I was near a large fallen tree and climbed up it to see where he went. I was watching him proceed through the field and hoped he would smoke some out. He was chasing his quarry and pretty soon three hogs wandered my way in single file and they didn't catch my scent as I figured if anything came my way my scent was not near where they were. I shot the first one the last one and the mid one in the spine from above, got down and finished them with the other pistol. Since I am living in close quarters I no longer have reloading capability and use commercial ammo, but I would recommend the Redhawk for what my two cents is worth.

in .44 mag. I have used both for hog and deer. I like the Garrett 330 grain super hard cast bullets for big boars. For deer I use the 240 grain Speer deep cup and solid cast 300 grain bullets. I have never had anything shot with one of those rounds that went more than 5 feet from where they were standing or hit while running. They just piled up DRT. I love my Redhawk and carried it for a while in Alaska until I met a brownie up close and decided I was under gunned. I know there are those on here that will disagree (most Al Georg fans) but I had Gary make me a 510 hunter and I never looked back. That round will just stomp anything that you need to shoot and have it dead in a hurry. If you are shooting a small (or a large) pig that is coming fast, remember it can cut you up so you need to stop it in it's tracks. I think you should use whatever you have practiced with and are comfortable shooting. JMHO.

I used SSK 315g hard cast over 21.6g of WW296. That was before Garrett came out with his ammo. His 330g rounds are stout, but if you can put one between the shoulder and ear at eye level, your pig will be DRT. I'm with Larry on endorsing the Garrett ammo. I never met a pig where I felt under-gunned with a 44mag with the rounds described.

A few years back, killed my first hog (not counting javelina) Beautiful Ruger Old Army 5 shot in .475. Did not use a ball, but soft lead bullet in front of 777.

Saw I knocked her 400 pounds down good after the smoke cleared. Great day with Gary and Puffy.
