The sight regulation saga continues...

I have cut quite a bit off the front sight. Shooting more consistently off a "Bog Pod" and I'm still this much low. The front sight is right under that middle square 1" or so at a 25 yd. sight picture. I have some left and I'm going to keep at it till the thing hits exactly where I want it to!

I last took off about 0.015" and I may double that this next time.

WB, you may NOT want to 'double that'...

You are close and don't really want to make the front sight a stub I suspect. I'd like to make a counter-suggestion: cut a very thin HORIZONTAL groove halfway down. Temporarily fill it with white-out or silver-ink-pen, whatever you have that's bright. If it works, then clean out the groove and fill it with gold or silver wire. If you've seen Elmer's old version of this, you'll know what I mean. Had a friend who did it on his old Colt and it worked like a charm (it was easy to see)!

Using a round file as a milling machine, mill a groove on the top strap so you can lower the rear sight. On a .22 that large you could mill out quite a bit.

The rear is the origins of all the ails.

I can vice it up and mill in a proper channel with correct wide square notch. I have a mill/lathe. I just can't see too good anymore.

That's an idea! I meant 0.030" not half sight.

I'm been trimming about 10-15 thousandths at a time and testing in between. This last time I expected to have it but its half a 8" paper plate low. At least 4" to go.

My 1873 .44-40 has exactly the opposite problem. Shoots a mile high and no adjustment. I plan on making a glue on "over sight" front for it. I have an idea.

There is 0.160" +/- front sight left.
