Reeder Custom Guns - Man .. you see some strange things now and then.

I am sizing and depriming 2000 or so 9mm's. I sorted them by headstamp and now am working them into shape to reload.

As I was running a batch through the sizing/depriming phase I ran across this -

The cartridge on the left is "Normal" ... the one on the right is not. Both are the same headstamp. The rim on the left catridge is .388". The rim on the right cartridge is .407" and as you can see, has been hammered hard enough to wipe out much of the headstamp. You can see where the primer flowed a bit also.

Again, the one on the left is the boogered one. Note the case bulge at the ejector cut. The normal case measures about .388" ... this case measures .404" at the bulge. You can see the rim is now thinner also.

Someone came real close to blowing their gun.

Any with that tell tale rectangle Glock primer hit I'd peek for a bulge on them too. That was a heck of a charge of fast powder. There is not much capacity anyway. Might have had the bullet pushed back into the case also. That will spike pressures too. I have some pocket gun ammo that got the bullet hammered back into the case from chambering/rechambering multiple times.
