Mould designs for it the UGLIEST bullets ever cast? Festooned with many multiples of small lube grooves from stem to stern with little protruding smooth. I don’t recall anything other than uninspiring RN designs. UGLY bullets! Coming from a realist caster that acknowledges that looks seldom reflect performance.

A gun writer friend told me 3 gun writers had been fired for taking $$ under the table and writing articles portraying the Creedmoor as the all around hunting cartridge for big game and stretching it's capabilities in writing.

Interestingly while looking at my bread and butter old .30-06 and researching I came across an article that said a .30-06 with a modern 190 gr. bullet SURPASSED the .300 Win. Mag. loaded with a flat based 180 gr. more conventional bullet at something over 200 yds. Tall talk but you can look for yourself. VERY interesting. Obviously load the 190 in the .300 and it's a different story.

But it reflects the advances in bullet tech we have today that was totally unheard of in the 1960's. If the 7x57 killed stacks of game in Africa in the 1930's and the 6.5 was all the rage even before it would still do it today in the right hands. Arguably your .300 has a marked edge. But if a person cannot handle the recoil and misses...

I was looking at it (6.5/7mm) for an all round secondary gun. This new fangled plastic wonder that shoots less than MOA. For my birthday maybe. Or perhaps another Colt SAA, if I could find a beater priced right.

The 7X57 (AKA 275 Rigby) took thousands of elephant but was done with a very well placed brain shot by a very good shot. It, like the Creedmoor, is not a cartridge I would recommend for all around African hunting.

I have watched African game hit with cartridges equal to the Creedmoor run off making for a long day tracking. In my humble opinion the 300 Win Mag is still the perfect plains game cartridge and the 375 H&H for the large plains game. And I say this even being a strictly handgun hunter. Kase shot a Common Reedbuck point of shoulder with a custom 378 Weatherby and it ran off. The same thing happened the next day with a Blue Wildebeest. All should have dropped on the spot but ran off. We finally chalked the 378 Weatherby as being way too fast for the 270 grain bullet and the bullet exploding on impact.

The main thing in Africa is shot placement. A shot in the ass with a 458 is still a shot in the ass. Colleen used her 300 Win Mag for 3 of her big African game on this past hunt for one shot dropped on the spot kills, and shot 2 others including her monster Cape Buffalo with a 458 rifle I built for her, again one shot kills.

To get to the gist of this never ending answer, the Creedmoor is an excellent target cartridge and should be left at home when venturing to Africa.

On this next (and last) African hunt of mine, good Lord willing, I plan to use the 450 GNR for my Cape Buffalo as I did a couple of years ago. I am bringing my 416 GNR as back up and my 310 GNR for the long range plains game animals. In handgun hunting 225 to 250 yards is long range.
