Reeder Custom Guns - Well,.. Its rare that I'm torn on a gun purchase..

Went in to my local gun shop lookin for a Rossi 44mag rifle. May dad said they had one... he didn't tell me he bought it. However, they did have a few things on my list.. A S&W Model 69, a Rock Island 1911 10mm (among others), and a blue 5.5 inch 357/9mm Blackhawk.

I currently don't have Double action 44 mag, I have never owned a 1911 or a 10mm gun, and I have been really wanting something for a 356/357/9mm setup, but I kinda wanted a 7.5 inch gun...

So, its likely that tomorrow, something new is coming home with me.

SWC in particular, OAL. The meplat can also so some funky things. Some guns just don't like some bullets. Cast does not always glide like jacketed alloy.

person is a reloader he can easily bypass those very small problems. In other words, use your brain. A semi wadcutter won't function well in any semi auto unless it has been ramped & polished. guys shooting semi wadcutters in 45 ACPs years ago found that out. Forget the meplat. Again that is just something to confuse the new reloader. I have NEVER measured a meplat on any of my semi autos. I use bullets designed for a semi auto, not some half ass design that I found at a junk store an decided to load it in my 10mm. We shoot several hundred rounds every week in our semi autos at the shop and NEVER have any problems with bullet design.

Stick with bullets designed for a semi auto and shown in a reloading manual and you will be fine. And to simplify things stick with jacketed bullets designed for a semi auto.

Handle the 44mag. I usually shoot 240gr bullets with a dose of Longshot as a range load but at 1000fps, it work for a hunting load as well. HOWEVER...I’d still still get with Gary on a single action for a hunting 44. More versatile I think.

The stock trigger sucks, no other way to say it, horrible. But once that is cleaned up its shoots great and is handy. One other advantage is its a L frame, so there are lots of grip/holster choices out there. Most of the time I shoot mid range 240gr lead loads, but when in the woods I have some stouter loads if needed. Makes a handy backup gun when I am hunting with a flintlock.
