When I lived in Connecticut there was a fox den on the backside of my property. Each year a litter of fox pups would be roaming and hunting the land that I lived on. Funny. Never had a squirrel problem.
Anyways. That sound is similar to what I'd hear during the mating season for fox.

Fox for sure, had one do that way too close to the old sleeping bag one night, on a back pack hunt,wide awake after that and my sleeping bag was a little damp
