Little update on the Wichita Single Shot Pistol

It's in 7mm Rimmed International, actually a improved .284/.30-.30. Not to be confused with the 7x30 Waters. This case has several differences but about the same capacity. I only loaded 27 gr. H335 with a 130 gr. JHP but the velocity forming cases was a lackluster 1800 fps from the 10.5" barrel. Not really inspiring. Also recoil is really notable which surprised me. That's .357 Max. territory in a 4 lb. gun. But the backstrap is flat steel too. Adding 300 fps and thinking of shooting 200+ rnds in a match would wear on you for sure. I'm jaded that Gary's muzzle brakes work so well. My 7mm GNR has that same bullet running 2400 fps easily and has almost no recoil! I'd want this thing Mag-na-ported for sure.

I'm at that point where I can sell for a good profit or proceed in once again taking a specialized target gun and trying to make a hunting gun out of it. I have envisioned a scope base with quick release rings and some custom touches. Not sure about a rechamber unless I think power can benefit. A 7mm GNR would allow 7x30 Waters ammo, one of it's marketable benefits. Not to mention I'd bet more power.

It's just hard to beat one of Gary's G2 barrels on that chassis, done to suit. Maybe I need to just focus on what I know in my heart to be what's about perfect. This gun has always lured me with it's craftsmanship and that nice tapered octagon barrel. Mechanically it's a little glitchy to load under duress and the spring plunger extractor could be problematic if ammunition was not really scrutinized. No flying close to the sun. I think the earlier models actually had some type of cam extractor set up.

Stainless does rust. I had to take care and carefully clean this old iron.
