It was a busy day today but I did acquire a medium bore hunting rifle for my birthday. A custom .338 Mag. on an Enfield action. It was obviously a big project gun for someone of late, not an old sporterization. Or at least reworked of late. Doug and I always liked the spirit of the A-Square rifles (the reputation of the company owner not withstanding). I've got Mausers so a P14/17 Enfield action was interesting.

Does anyone know of a good work on the various military actions and their attributes for hunting sporters? I can't remember which old master had a good book on the topic. I probably already have the book. Been a while since I was looking into rifles.

It made a lot of sense to just blast anything with the BRNO .416 and 350/400 gr. bullets. But as a back up or alternate I desired a "modern" synthetic stocked more robust platform. My little Mauser .30-06 seemed too fragile and a bit light. The .338 made sense, I have all the tools and components. Plus Doug got a late Ruger Hawkeye so chambered. This one has a special stock and brake engineered to specifically really mitigate felt recoil. It will be fun to try it.
