I used to load up in my bedroom upstairs. One thing you can't do with a LEE hammer kit is be quiet. Tap-tap-tap-tap. First you de-prime with a special punch and raised base with a hole in it. Next hammering the case flush with the hand held die. Them you place a primer in a special spring washer base and using another dish ended punch you prime while expelling the sized case from the size die. That's usually where I went Tap-Tap-Tap-BANG! I'd yell downstairs to my Mother "I'm OKAAAAA!". that was as per her request. I distinctly remember an evening with the .35 Remington.
*Primer premature detonation was usually caused by bits of brass getting under the springy priming assy. Keep it clean and no problems. Human error. More lighter hits, compared to fewer big ones, helped too.
Continuing operation is to chamfer the case mouth or for pistol kits flair with a little special tool. The other end of the sizer die sports a funnel to charge the case with the supplied dipper as per chart. Then seat the bullet by dropping it down the powder funnel and using the prime base appendage acting as the bullet seater with die body depth adjustment. They even figured a way to use the funnel mouth as a crimper using the inverted de-prime base as a primer protector. All this done with a soft faced little hammer you must provide.
Dick LEE was a true genius, I mean really genuis inventor. I think he was mostly shunned by mainstream all those years. But he hung in there and kept his business family owned, never sold out. Have you ever seen a big write up on Dick Lee? Only of late has real mainstream begun to notice his equipment on par with others. If not in outright quality then for value, innovation, and mass use. The original stuff has been around for some 60 years!
