I had some pulled Hornady XTP and ( my favorites)Sierra 300 grain SP.

The Sierra can be loaded and shot, the XTP did exactly what it’s supposed to. It totally opened up, started shedding its jacket.
OK, I give. Which one would you recommend?

FA83 you made Africa legal. Very accurate, and I’ve used them on moose, bear, bison, hogs etc. the Hornady would be awesome on deer etc. and not as accurate as the Sierras in all my 45’s, 454’s and .455

used them in my Auto Mags for years and they were used in the 44 Mag Super Vel loads back then too. My original and current bullets for deer type hunting in my 41 GNR revolvers has always been the Sierra 170 grain JHC.
The 220 Sierras are great in the 410, 41#2

The noses touching seem to be grabbing and distorting where it would not if it were not pressed against another bullet. For comparing deformation at like force you need to address that variable. IMO
That’s why I just hit them with a sledge on an anvil

Sierra strongly suggests running those 300gr at least 1600 FPS or more.
So I was curious how fast you have been running them to obtain your success with them ? I ask wanting to learn,,,, I do know they are tough and yes they work, when driven hard.
In a FA83 I run them just about at that mark

I’ve never had one fail me. I’ve only recovered two. One passed thru a 400 lb hog, on dry ground, and was found 8” in the ground. I reloaded it and used it again. The other I put in an oak branch tracking a moving hog. The front was laid over.
