Have a favorite you prefer? Or, like most times I have danced with what “brung me” sometimes hunting for different quarry and some dumbass shows up,,,,presenting itself with a unique opportunity to rid the area of an unwanted predator. And of course there just so happens when boredom painstakingly succumbs to an unerring desire to display your skills on an
Unwittingly live target. Squirrels stealing corn,,,

our main varmints. In a good area it is not unusual to shoot 200 to 250 rounds a day at the Prairie Dogs. Coyotes are a different thing as they are getting smarter and staying out of reach of most of my handguns. My main one for years has been the first custom XP I ever built, in 224 Weatherby.

One of the Misfits has that one now and hopefully he is having as much luck with it as I did.

For playing around and small game hunting one of my main guns is a S&W model 48 in 22 Magnum with a scope. That is for our big squirrels we have here that are the size of a house cat that sit in the top of a tall Ponderosa Pine and bark at me.

For general grey squirrel and rabbits I have several 22 semi autos that I like. One is an AMT/Ruger combo. Ruger bottom and an 8" heavy AMT barrel with scope.

Another one I like is a Browning Buckmark. The Bullseye model that is no longer being made, also with a good scope.

If I am hunting Jack Rabbits with one of my 28 gauge O/U I carry an iron sighted 22 pistol like one that Army medalist Joe Benner gave me years ago, a well used High Standard, but one that is as accurate as when it was new. Joe set a lot of records with this gun and several still stand.

Another favorite is my Peters Stahl 22 auto long slide. Probably as accurate as that High Standard and super strong. Locks up like a bank vault.

The 22 magnum is my favorite rimfire cartridge. One that is another favorite is the Rock Island 22 mag XTM semi auto. Very accurate and just feels good in my hand. I did a little work on it too.

Was trying to remember if the Bobcats were taken with the 41mag or your 454. Looks like your 41....
Around Thanksgiving I shot a Bobcat trotting at a 45degree angle to me. I was trying to hunt deer, but that Tom changed my plans. A 454 w/300gr Swift Aframe puts a big hole in em.

The day before it was spotted in a tree looking at some does with fawns.
The guy and his girlfriend hunting from that blind got in an argument over to shoot or not shoot. Knowing what I know about bobcats, I respectfully shared a bit of info about them and their diet to include turkeys and deer.
The ranch owner gave specific instructions to take out the bobcat if sighted again. I did and last I heard the Taxidermist said that big hole was no problem,,,as the owner was having it mounted.
It’s plausible the reason no deer were seen and no turkeys were around a few days prior. Several places I have been encourage the removal of coyotes or bobcats. Especially during deer season.

reminds me of the time I shot a coyote with a .38 Special derringer ... it was all I had on me at the time.

A coworker killed one, and I cooked it with potatoes and carrots. Fed four of us.

that was on the right hand rear of my truck. I stopped, picked it up and took it home. We ate it and it fed us all.

Typically if a varmint suddenly appears on the home-front scene I'm not quite as prepared as I would like. A .32 ACP and a .458 handy with ammo close, which one?! lol

I purpose built two main critter getters. Gary made me a really nice .240 Raptor on a Contender/G2 chassis with a 13" bull barrel and 2-8X variable on top. Also he made me a 16" G2 barrel in .22 K-hornet, which of course also shoots regular .22 Hornet. It can be a carbine or long barreled handgun. I have many others ranging from .17 HMR to the .256 Falcon that are credibly dedicated and in that realm.

Sitting here in the warm house and my easy chair I consider. The .45 Redhawk is very close as is a 10mm semi-auto. Over by the piano is a side folding AK and combat 870 at the ready. What I have purpose made is not necessarily what gets called into action at a moment's notice. The pains of an eclectic collection of a rabid enthusist.
