I got a 12" MGM 22 wmr Contender barrel in a trade. I already have a scoped Ruger Hunter in 22 wmr. Thinking about sending the MGM bbl to Gary for rechambering. Not sure what might work so open to suggestions.

Thanks

Lots of difference in a Contender and Revolver...

Nothing wrong with having both. Lots of rechamber possibilities too I suppose.

I'm a huge 22 Magnum fan, so I say keep as is. Know Gary likes the 22 Magnum too.

Thanks Huey

The 50gr Federal was a determining factor

For me. My Marlin loved them. Did you try the MRF ? Very hard to find even in different times. But accuracy is improved in some guns.

To play devil's advocate...

I've toyed with the .22 WMR from youth and I'm a bit less excited about it's utility. Unless you are poaching small deer and it's legally the largest gun you can tote out of season. Good for late night inspections involving flashlights and game officers. As it used to be in the Game & Fish regulations around here. To about 125 yds. it can do pretty well if the gun is up to it. Finding ammo is starting to be a real game and WMR prices are nudging $40/50 rounds in some places, when even available at all. It bucks wind much better than the .17 HMR, which on windless days does great to 200 yds.

Out of a handgun the benefit is greatly reduced to a heavier better constructed "jacketed" bullet at perhaps 200-300 fps over the .22 LR. However this does not apply to the single shot. But whatever blows air up your dress.

The practical re-chambers begin with the .22 K-hornet (the std. one his horrible from my experiences, by comparison). Then perhaps the exotic .218 Bee up to Gary's rather innovative .224 on the .30-30 case. The .220 Swift is not quite there even itself. From a short barrel though it would greatly loose efficiency, but still produce. Life is short, play hard!

224 Gnr would be neat
