See a lot of Sterling 12 ga rifled slug ammo on various sites. Anyone have experiance with this brand? Good or Bad
Any that you can get is good right now.

A box of slugs would last me years. I usually shoot 5-6 to see where they hit at 50 yds. or so then call it good until I want to really hammer something with an ounce of lead.
I cast my own LEE 1 oz. 12 bore slugs and worked a light load of 17.5 grs. of RedDot in a 7/8 oz. plastic wad. Years ago I got a deal on some Estate white transparent hulls. The orange wad and big slug can be seen through the walls. Power is just subsonic at 1000-1050 fps with easy recoil.
Ive always wanted to play with a fully rifled barrel but that is all they are good for, nothing else. A smooth bore will shoot fine to at least 75 yds. and that is enough for me.

and there is national competition now with shotgun slugs. Rifled slug barrels are very cool. Browning made a special edition of the bolt action for the special shooting.
I think sabot shotgun shells have a LOT of untapped potential but the sabots themselves are a bit uncontrollable in post use flight. I've hammered a chrono before!
Just think a 12 ga. sabot that can send a .50 BMG slug at 1500 fps or maybe a .338 at 2000+ fps. What versatility! Sabots also can shoot soft cast and the gun bore is not effected.

I have several rifled barrel guns. Browning's, Savages and a couple custom built Mauser bolt actions with Shaw barrels. Using the sabots that each prefers, dead deer to 200 yards. Haven't seen a Lightfield slug that didn't shoot good yet. Brenneke, not so much. Hornady/Barnes and SST, great if the gun likes it.
The Browning's are so good I put away a couple of unfired ones and a bunch of Lightfield slugs. A pump shotgun needs a cantilever scope mount to get past the 50/75 yards. TarHunt fixes the removable barrels on Remington 870's to the receiver. When we were shotgun and handgun only for deer hunting, I shot about 200 slugs a year.
