Checking, I was pleased to find that ammo for the 470 is currently available albeit hardly cheap. What was surprising is that it seems to not have risen to ‘gouge’ pricing in contrast to some of the more common big boomers. I guess there’s a case of supply and demand since most of the 470 out there has probably been sitting on shelves waiting to be sold while stuff like 308 is in high demand and starting to bring stupid prices — assuming you can find any to buy.

to great effect. Trail Boss powder can tame the beast where anyone can shoot it to use for any game and not blast it into oblivion. I shot 325 gr. cast and the wonderful 400 gr. Hornady XPT too. The latter you can do naughty things with, not that it would serve a good useful purpose, but it is absolutely devastating! Ditto for the .476 GNR.

brake is a joy to shoot. No more kick than a 12ga max dram migratory bird load. You can shoot it all day if you can afford it. LOL. the gun swinging nice too.

It's a .470 NITRO! But with .480 Ruger bullets and special lighter charges anyone can shoot it. A 325 gr. bullet at 1200-1500 fps is very formidable in the game field. You can keep the Elephants out of your tomatoes with it. Trail Boss is a smokey hoot but you will still only get 100-120 shots from your 8 oz. (pound) can of Trail Boss. But for cast bullet shooting it's very economical and you can even use large pistol primers. That's plenty of fun though.

A 5 gal. bucket of sand (with lid) will stop all your bullets so you can melt and use them again. Gary's trick with the Rubbermaid trash can is great. I use (3) 55 gal. drums for my backstop. It lasts a long time rotating them.
