Red dots on small packing guns...

MY LGD has a XDS 9 Mod2 with the CT optic red dot. I'm not a big XD fan but they shoot fine. This one is used but I can't tell it, with box papers, all pieces and mags, for $500. Seems like a pretty good deal and it has my curiosity up. How much does the red dot extend the range of hit capability on the little gun? Would it make 50 yd. hits on a 6" gong "easy" compared to the 5" sight radius? I almost bought it just to see for myself. It's a nice package all put together.

I really went in to look at a little SP101 .22 8-shot he has with a 4" and green optic front sight. I already have a M63 Kit gun but this little Ruger has had my eye for a while. Then I passingly noted he had a nice old Colt Official Police 6" in .22 LR, 85% for $500 on the tag. He has some wiggle room usually on stuff like that. I thought the OP .22's commanded a premium over the .38's and .32's. It might be a deal too.

His mint SP is priced at $550.

This is a picture of one a bit nicer than 85%. I think it went at auction for a little under $800. Still a deal, it is actually the Python chassis in fixed sight form.

The Ruger is very tempting but I would have to go with the Colt

I can't speak to carrying the Red Dot,..

.. But the XDS is good to go. I know a lot of folks don't dig the company but I like the gun. I trust well enough to have given mine to my oldest daughter.

But,.. I'm goin to need to replace it. Might be snub revolver. Maybe another LCR.

So I'm back to carrying my G26, which ain't breaking my heart. I think I'm over needing a single stack carry gun. At least for a little while.

I would never have a red dot on my carry guns.

the extra time you take to acquire that red dot could get you killed. I know they are used in the combat games, but those are just that...games. And if you ever shoot a bad guy at 50 yards, you will spend some time in the crossbar Motel. The term 50 yards and carry gun should never be used in the same sentence. Stick with a red or green front dot and it'll save your life.

Have to agree! 3-7yds and open sight.

Red dots are fun to play with and definitely have there use but I’d say for CCW as regular armed citizen you should probably stay away from them.
Just my 2 cents....

yup, GNR and Larry are right. A red dot on a carry
