It could happen to anyone and I take walks myself in the woods. We have some Rattle Snakes on this side of the DesArk Creek in the county, north of that line it's mostly Water Moccasins and Copper Heads. But you don't want to step on any of them. They are not out to get you but it's so easy to blunder upon them. Also, not all Rattle Snakes rattle! Sometimes not until AFTER they strike!

I could not link the post so I copied it here with a couple of the photos. Be careful.

"Today for my birthday I learned a valuable lesson.
I’m an avid outdoorsman, I love to explore with my dog Khal Drogo. I decided to hit the woods with my pup and get some fresh air. I didn’t tell anyone where I was going, a mistake that could have been deadly. The day started out chilly, I wore a lite jacket but the temperature warmed up quick. Me and Khal Drogo ventured through trees, creeks, up and down hills, we got to a pretty high elevation. Up there I explored a steep bluff line with many interesting rock formations. At this point we were miles in with no cell phone service. As I went along the rocks I stopped for a brief moment to catch my breath and spotted some Diamondback rattlesnakes close by getting some sun.

I froze!

I instantly thought about every step I took. I couldn’t tell how many were in that spot but they were BIG! I took a couple pictures and they all started to move. They were all big but the huge one started moving my direction. I knew we had to get out of there. I grabbed my pup and worked my way away from the rocks. As soon as I stepped around a tree by the rocks, I stepped right beside another rattlesnake. All I could do was lunge forward over the snake with Khal Drogo and down the steep incline we went! We rolled a little ways and got caught in some thick briars.

Don’t worry! My neck broke my fall!!!

I popped up as fast as I could and picked Khal up. I was in their home and had no idea how many were around or where. I was able to make it down the mountain to a creek that led back to a trail. It was reckless of me to venture out like that.

I want to warn everyone that likes that stuff to understand the forest is full of beauty and dangers. I also want to warn that even though we were covered in snow two weeks ago, the snakes are coming out during these warm patches.
Y’all be careful, my day could have easily been a lot worse. I was lucky enough to not get bit, I have no idea how but God was watching over! I had a snake bite kit with me but that would really only buy me time.

I came out with cuts and bruises and Khal Drogo had a bloody nose. It was a wild birthday adventure!!!

(You can see some of the rattlesnakes in two of my pictures)

(Location is Ozark-St.Francis National Forest, North of Van Buren and Natural Dam, AR - exact location will not be given for obvious reasons)"
