Playing with the Star BM

Took the Star BM to the range today. I have not had a chance to shoot it much since December! Ran several hundred rounds through it this morning. I have never been a 9mm fan .. just because of personal preference .. but I have gotten more tolerant as I have aged.

The 9 is easy on powder and lead. The load with 3.5 gr. of 700X will yield 2000 reloads from a pound of powder! That ain't nothing to make light of these days. The load is mild, somewhere around 900 fps.

The highest hit was my first shot. I was holding center and it went high. I dropped to a 6 o'clock hold and fired the last 4.

Loads with Unique and Blue Dot were hotter, giving more recoil and hitting closer to the sights.

Any inaccuracy is due in large part to the nut that was holding the grip. The little gun feels good in the hand but the trigger, while not heavy, is gonna take me a bit of time to get used to.

Looks pretty good to me Jim!

with some changes. No grip safety etc. is the main change, and a solid recoil rod. They are the same size as the alloy framed PD .45 but being a steel frame 9mm they should last forever. There is a desirable lightweight version called the KBM. I bought Blake's long ago and he upgraded to a KBM for his wife.

The slides are very easy to work since they are a locked breach gun. Just carry cocked and locked like a 1911. The mags are a bit steep at $50 a copy for originals but they sure work flawlessly. Mine preferred 147 gr. and I even loaded 158 gr. .38 SWC re-sized to .356" and seated just deep enough to fit the mags and function. The slick cast bullets ran right at 1000 fps and shot wonderfully to the sights. Lots more firepower than a revolver with +P performance and flat, compact, fitting in your back pocket.

I sold mine to a friend and have missed it ever since. I think my wife would like it. She has been wanting a semi-auto to carry but shuns .380 and Glocks. She has hand strength issues for racking a slide too. Maybe I need to revisit the Star BM.

Yep great guns. Both my wife and myself carry the BKM

And there is one on GB right now. $325 is not bad in the current state of things!

Neat little gun. I’ve been meaning to load some 147gr cast slugs for it. Haven’t got around to it yet. My trigger is also serviceable but just a little different feeling.
