AFRICA SMILED

Africa smiled
A little
When you left.
"We know you,"Africa said,"We have seen
And watched you,
We can learn
To Live
Without you,
But
We know
We needn't
Yet.
"And Africa smiled
A little
When you left.

"You cannot Leave Africa,"Africa said.
"It is always with you
There inside your head.
Our rivers run
In currents
In the swirl
Of your thumbprints.
Our drumbeats
Counting out your pulse,
On the coastline,
The silhouette of your soul.

"So Africa smiled
A little
When you left.
"We are in you."Africa said.
"You have not Left us,
Yet."

A poem by Bridget Dore

I am so much looking forward to this, my last African

hunt. African hunt #15. I have been waiting for almost 2 years for this hunt and we are within 10 days of it coming to fruition. Due to a small health problem it will be my last but I am hoping it will be the best. I have Cape Buffalo in mind and have been drawn for cull elephant. I am not too set on the elephant hunt. I know it will feed a whole village for months but the elephant is such a huge magnificent beast it seems to be a shame to kill him just to feed some villagers. But that may change if the old guy is pointed out to me. We'll see.

This hunt has been inundated with pages and pages of paperwork. So many things have changed, Just getting there has turned into a challenge. Early travel arrangements showed me going from Flagstaff to Phoenix, Phoenix to salt Lake, Salt lake to Minneapolis, Minneapolis to Amsterdam, and Amsterdam to Joburg. Thank the Lord that was changed. Now we are Flagstaff to Dallas, Dallas to Qatar (which is on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia) and Qatar to Joburg. So a bit less confusing. But because of the covid crap there is so much paperwork to shuffle through. We have to have a covid test within 72 hours of leaving the U.S. and hope the folks giving the tests get the paperwork back to us before leaving a week from today. Then we have to show that paperwork at every destination we get to on the way plus filling out reams of paperwork ahead of time.

So the bullshit is deep but knowing we will be in Africa hunting it is all worth it.

I hope it ends up being your best one!

I doubt very seriously I will go for the elephant and just concentrate on the Cape Buffalo. But thanks for the morbid thought.
