I am going to buy a couple of Bolt action rifles in 308 Winchester. I have 2 young men that are good friends that need their first rifle to shoot deer and pigs with. What New bolt rifles have y’all bought recently that you are happy with? I am seriously considering the mossberg patriot.
Bergara, Ruger, Savage

not the Bergara. Several of the gun writers have boosted sales of that rifle way beyond where it should be by their constant promoting it. They get paid to say good things about a gun. Other than John Taffin I have yet to see a gun writer tell the downsides about a gun.
I’ve been really happy with CZ’s too

For young fellows to hunt with. I have quite a number of CZ Rimfires. Also a 550 in 9.3x62 and a 527 in 6.5 Grendel. All are top of the line...

Their MVP model is kicking the asses of the $3000 long range rifles. Next choice would be the Savage Axis. It was the best selling rifle in the country a couple of years ago.

Ruger Americans-- good rifles that they don't have to worry about hurting. Two are in .270 and one in .243. Earlier I gave another grandson a early pristine light weight Ruger M 77 in .308. I have built up a Ruger Stainless Steel Heavy Barrel .308 foR bench and long range shooting. It has a heavy wide forearm, tripod, muzzle brake, and large scope for total weight of 14 pounds and is about as comfortable to shoot as a .22. You cannot go wrong with either a Ruger or a Mossberg.
Model 70. Flat-bottom action.

XL-7’s. One .270 and a .308 that are fantastic shooters.
