I would agree with what most have said already. Most law enforcement agencies do not allow lasers. Some reasons being the inaccuracy, which leads to liability. But in a dynamic situation such as an active shooter, trying to find a laser on a bad guy would not be easy. It would be slower than using iron sights. I also see fundamentals significantly decrease with people using lasers, they finally get the dot to hold still on the target then suddenly snatch the trigger and are bewildered that the shot went low. Of course this can be corrected with training. But one of the worst things about lasers, in my opinion, is multiple people having them on the same target, no one knows who's is who's.
Some people use lasers instead of putting night sights on guns, but if it's too dark to see your sights it's likely too dark to see you target as well.
Through training I have figured out what gear I need and what I don't need. Mindset, then tactics (movement, cover, concealment, escape routes if necessary), then skill (shooting fundamentals, knife fighting or other fighting skills, etc), then gear (just tools to get the job done, some tools make it easier, some don't).
I would also make it a point to make sure your family knows what to do in that situation. My wife and I have discussed a few concise phrases and in this situation she would go to our vehicle or a safe place (how ever far away she needs to go), call 911 and give a physical/clothing description of me so the 5-0 knows what the good guy looks like and describe the situation.
Just my 2 cents. But try a laser out if it tickles your fancy, just dont think you HAVE to use it if your train with it and don't like it.
