I have a friend who competes PALMA. 1100 yds with IRON sights. Everyone shoot .308, period. It's the rules. The home sponsor of a match provides the ammo too, all the same, to everyone! They manage 10-15" 10-shot groups I've seen.
That long range is a totally different game of control, equipment, and wind management. I admire it, but no way could I come close to even trying it. I'm happy to pot at rocks or floating stuff a fer piece off. Watch the dirt or water splash up long after the shot.
And a 300WSM to boot! Wonderful cartridge!
