John Taffin mentioned .44-40's with small primers in a post below, and I remember having some. Also had some .38-40's with small primers. So I started digging through my crap to try and find them. But alas! It's been nearly 20 years since I put them away for safe-keeping and I cannot remember where I last saw them.

BUT ... I ran across some other things that I had put away.

Balloon-Head .44 Specials

These I loaded with 3.6 gr. Bullseye .. with no plans to shoot them.

I also found some of my old original .475 Linebaugh loads. These were made on the .45-70 cartridges. I liked them better than the later commercial version that have the smaller rim. I understand why they had to do that. I just liked the original version better, even though it was not better than the commercial version.

Last, in the same storage box, some of my old heavy .45 Colt 300 gr. loads. These are loaded with 21.5 gr. WC820 and will let you know what you just touched off. I don't shoot them anymore. I have gotten to be a recoil wimp in my old age.

If I run across those small primer .44-40's and .38-40's I will get some pictures. Please do not hold your breath waiting.

Buffalo 3 years ago are almost too much for me today. I don't remember having any problems with recoil of that load, which is a 500 grain solid at 2000 fps in a 14" Encore. But today I have to have one of my guys put a gun to my head and force me to shoot that load. I have apparently turned into a real pussy in the last 3 years.

IT WILL GET WORSE AND WORSE AND WORSE

Is very formidable and quite pleasant to control. I need to chrono them to just see what they are doing. The BOOM tells me sub-sonic but have to be 800-900'ish. They would really smack something.

I'm thankful I finally got a little relief from the rheumatoid arthritis, through injections. I can still shot my encore in 308 and my 44 vaquero with semi warm loads. Now my bow hand is giving me hell, getting old ain't for the faint of heart

I will become even less recoil tolerant by buying up some 357s. The latest is one of the 6 shot Redhawks with 5 1/2" barrel. That one should be easy to shoot for years to come.

DON'T COUNT ON IT!
