The sequester on political posing precluded me from making snide comments about bureaucrats slobbering at the thought of getting some free money to squander. Since they already have depleted funding and have broken down infrastructure. With the stroke of a pen it suddenly shall be so (!?), with no idea for actual scope, cost, or who is to pay.

This already underway. From a SHOOTER'S perspective, MORE LEAD! The scrap markets should be rife with scrap lead from pipes soon. I sure hope so, it's good stuff too, needs some hardening usually but a boon. Hopefully the mandate will not included some loonie compliant method of disposal that precludes U.S. use of it. There is a wild foreign market for lead. They might bid it up too high for casters to get a shot. (Forgive the pun)

In 1955 I was working part time for the City of Trenton N.J. water department, and the city offered free replacement of lead intake water pipes with copper pipes. Many took us up but some did not, and they had to pay dearly later. I had taken Latin in Jr High and High school and got into Roman history. It was there I connected the dots as the Romans drank out of lead vessels and ate with lead plates. They were killing themselves slowly

We are only some clothes and a few trips to the Grocery store away from being right back where they were. The lead pipes "scale" over pretty rapidly with minerals and it totally encapsulates the lead material from the water. Not in every single case but many. As long as the flow and chemistry are not changed there will be no lead leaching into the water consumed. Now I'd not want to drink lemonade from a "lead" pitcher, there are considerations! It is incredible that some of those Greek and Roman lead pipes are still functioning today some 3000 years later. Ditto for "concrete" without the diabolical re-bar in it! There is a lesson there somewhere. They even placed copper plates in the aqueducts that had "medicinal" properties, actually the copper sulfate does deter bacteria. Also "fish" in cages to ensure an indication of the "freshness" of the water. Hey it worked in large!

Lead is a natural element in the ground and it's effects on humans are not fully understood. Truthfully way overblown for sure. Same as Ducks and Condors eating shot and bullets! But the Government and agencies have a big money maker in place. It's simply a matter of back channeling the money to line the pockets of those in the system.

But for US, I'd love to have a few ton of lead pipe to make into personal shooting fodder. I still collect it from my own backstop to re-cycle.
