a while back a lady brought in 3 old guns she wanted us to totally refurbish. Just the bluing would be more than the guns were worth, but these guns seemed to mean a lot to her so I agreed to bring them back to life. Nate has been doing the wood stocks and forends and bringing them back to as nice as when they left the factory.
All the guns were from the late 40s or early 50s and during that time gun makers were experimenting with different steels looking for that one miracle steel.....that being a stainless steel. It was still many years away but some of the alloys they used were pretty close to the properties of the stainless steel. I have one of that lady's guns in the bluing tank right now and it has been in there for over 4 hours and it still a silver color. It will eventually take the Black Chromex (a deluxe bluing) but it seems to take forever. So it is going to be a long night.
