this is a 500 S&W with a 700 grain bullet in it. The old gentleman had a couple of boxes of it. I have yet to see a reason for this cartridge but the young crowd seem to like it as I have had a few come in the shop and ask for it.

A friend that worked at a lgs gave me some of those to try.

I think they were called t-rex. Shot 2 of them, WOW. Talk about flattening primers. Still have some somewhere. They shall remain unfired.

Original design by Ranger Rick. Dunno if that was nick name or what. They were called the T Rex . Matt’s bullies still makes them. I never shot one. I shot the 440gr grizzly many times and still have 3 boxes of the Cast Performance.
they have to have the ballistics of a brick

a 700 grain bullet at 1200 fps would be hard

on the gun and the shooter. The back thrust of getting that 700 grain bullet up the barrel at that speed sure seems to me it would stretch a frame real quick. I would never shoot something like that in my guns. If a 300 grain JSP bullet at 1400 fps will put a 2000 lb Cape Buffalo on his knees with one shot, what more would a person need?

I wonder if that bullet will fly true, and then track straight through an animal when it hits? I don't think extreme flat nose designs perform all that well on game, but I haven't shot enough big animals with handguns to know.
