I once wore one as a compromise with some little old church ladies who didn't like an open collar and blue jeans in the pulpit. That collar can still open some doors that "normal" clothes can't. Especially at hospitals and other inconvenient places one might have to visit a church member at all hours of the night. I was grateful to have the collar in my toolbox when it was needed.
And, it sure beat wearing a tie!
