Country dogs at least communicate with different barks. My family knows the difference. There is the motorcycle/lawn mower machine bark, cat fight bark, something in the barn causing a ruckus bark, and the less frequent turtle/snake bark! We got the latter today while I was some 17 minutes distant. Mom does not do snakes as well as she used to. Having babies changes them I think.

When I got home they had the dog out (don’t want her bit). Mom, sis, Benj we’re all standing watch. A hoe, shovel, .410 revolver! Quick inspection with zoom on a camera confirmed round pupils. Sis ran for her snake book. Confirmed “Plain Bellied Water Snake”. It’s often confused with a Moccasin, and rightfully so. Everyone stood down, had a time getting it shoo’d from under the dog house. Finally he struck the hoe a couple times, let loose some funky stink and slithered out of the pen.

Are you sure it was the snake that made the

Copperheads can put out some smell too, it smells kind of like a fresh cut cucumber. Really! In the woods if you smell that in the South, take a look before your next step!

OUR DOGS TOO - THEY'VE GOT ABOUT 5 DIFFERENT TYPES
SEVERAL YEARS AGO OUR BIG DOG MOLLY WENT ABSOLUTELY BESERK AFTER MIDNIGHT ONE NIGHT - WIFE GOT UP & LOOKED OUT THE DOOR & SAID - JIM GET YOUR GUN - I DID & VENTURED OUTSIDE
A METH HEAD HAD LEFT TOWN 2.5 MILES AWAY & VENTURED DOWN THE ROAD & WALKED RIGHT UP OUR 1/4 MILE DRIVEWAY
WIFE HAD CALLED THE SHERIFF & HE MET MY 357 MODEL 92
HAD BEEN HUFFING A CAN OF GAS UNDER THE OPEN SHED -- ACTUALLY BEGGED ME TO SHOOT HIM
DEPUTY ARRIVED SHORTLY & CARTED HIM OFF
MOLLY KNEW & WE NOW LISTEN TO HER

AND YEAH ESPECIALLY A GOOD SIZED COTTON MOUTH - I STUMBLED ON ONE WHILE FISHING IN THE BAYOU IN LOUISIANA ONE TIME & HE REALLY DID HAVE A STRONG ODOR - I LEFT THAT ONE ALONE

same cadence as "Lucy in the sky with diamonds"

you could almost sing it with the same music but it wouldn't be as popular.

Wow, hope Paul McCartney sues me for copyright infringement!

Picture yourself in a house close to Searcy
With a cool guy named Water Boy with a shovel and hoe
Then think of the snake in the grass at his disposal
How do you think that would go, oh?

Ahhhh, ohhhhhhh

Imagine you're a snake in a dog pen at Scotty's
He's coming for you with a sweet .410 bore
but he uses a camera and sees you a round eye
you get to live one day more, more.

I had a Bluetick Walker hound mix that was a trailing mechaine. He had a different bark for what he was training. He had the classic bay for deer. A excited higher pitch rapid bark on a coyote, and a low deep woof for black bear. I would let him run in the woods and try to keep in ear shot of him. If he brought something to bay he figured he won and to start back home. If he lost a sent and couldn’t find me he a long lonesome howl then go quiet. I would whistle a couple of long four finger blast and he would show up 10 or 15 min later. I used to take him off-roading with me. that dog would trail my old Land Rover for miles and miles he could trot along all day. He loved it.

We have these on our lake.....
