My youngest, Benjamin, and I very selectively shot twenty rounds, five at a time, in three revolvers he was trying out. He likes to hike and explore, he’s been hanging out with me doing a little security. Benj wanted to hike down the hill to the creek on our property. He’d never been there. In the summer it’s as lush and dense as any jungle. Complete with mosquitos snakes and steep slippery clay banks. I wanted to let him explore but there are many strange people around, crack heads and such. So I let him take one of my .45’s to keep in the Keydex holster ONLY for absolute emergency.

It sort of exposed his need for his own “hiking gun” to become familiar with and begin to use under supervision. He is a very trustworthy and responsible 15 yr. old. We are testing stainless .38 Special revolvers. We have a Rossi snubby, S&W M64 HB, and even shot the 4” M66. He liked the 66 but for carry hiking and utility wants to first work with the 2” Rossi.

At 10-12 yds. He did great, learning loading and ejecting techniques common to all three we tried. Afterward it was time to do a little reloading with the bug out 310 Lyman kit. Benj really took to this and said he enjoyed it. Actually afterward he joked we could sell his X-box he would just reload cartridges. Lol. Of late I’ve become aware of my mortality and increasing need to ramp up my passing on some unique skills and share some good times. It’s a win-win for everyone.
