new pick up truck.

I hemmed and hawed for a while regarding a new vehicle and finally made the decision to buy a 2021 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 pick up truck. I chose to purchase a brand new truck as it seems that the used Tacoma's were running the same price as a used one.

The decision was a bit bittersweet. I traded in Mom's old Nissan Rogue. She passed away a little over a year ago and could not drive for a number of years but it was "hers". Last September the CVT transmission blew and in this day and age they don't fix them they swap them out. Big bucks spent on that.

Anyways. I thought over this kind of long and hard and made the decision that I wanted to get rid of the vehicle before it hit 100K. Also my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport was more or less DOA in the back yard since late December. I traded in the Nissan and sold the Jeep for a few bucks.

This may sound odd but it seemed weird buying a brand new truck. The last brand new truck I bought was a 2004 Ford Ranger which I drove into the ground.

As I am driving it more I am liking it. Last week I went to the Berkshires for a day and went down an old trail that Dad and I had hunted off of before. It was nice and it brought back some great memories.

I do plan to go back again with a metal detector. I know it is a longshot but there is a stone wall where my Dad lost his old hunting knife. Now this was 40 years ago but I figure why not take a chance.

Our transmission work I sublet to a friend. The last he said is, don't buy a CVT transmission equipped vehicle. The trans are all from Nissin (not Nissan) who holds the patent. The reason they replace and charge a high core charge is they don't want them out in public. Nissin just scraps them. He took one apart. Said the drive belt looks like a snowmobile belt wrapped up with packing staples crimped around it. Sleeving it with metal. Wears out the belt and sheaves.
Also added if you do buy one get rid of it by 60K miles. Shortly after is usually when they go.
That's my trans guys dos centavos.
Congrats on the Taco. Good trucks which Toyota stands behind well. We have 3 Toyotas in the family. My beater Yaris has 195K and still looks and runs well.

The last several years of her life included mobility issues. She was in a wheelchair much of the time. The Nissan Rogue was designed for the right height to "scootch" out of a chair and sit in the car.

So I cannot fault Dad for that. The vehicle was good but I noticed a few times the RPM's jumped up a few times without a good reason. I seem to recall that happening before the CVT went on it.

So I traded it in at a good time.
