Little side project underway...

My youngest son is very interested in all things mechanical. He truly loves reloading that I have introduced him to. We'll wait to drag out the Dillon, first things first, Lyman 310 kit. He is now setting up his own dies, learning the foundation. The 310 kit neck sizes only so the less of the neck you size the easier it is. Grease is good too. He even poked a primer in backward. I knew that was coming. LOL

We took a link out of his motorcycle chain too. Things a man needs to know how to do. We whacked the barrel on the Mossberg. I checked the ATF federal limits and the barrel need to be over 18" (this was a original production "shotgun" so trying to make something else from it is dicey) and an overall length of over 26" with any stocks mounted and or folded. I like a little extra room so the barrel is just under 19" and mechanical OAL even w/o the pistol grip is just over 27", the way I wanted it.

The walnut buttstock was is much worse shape than I knew. Repairable but it's going to take a couple passes with hardwood 1/4" dowels and Accraglass, lots of sanding and staining. Maybe later.

By far the easiest method to cut the barrel is a hacksaw. It is difficult to get it straight and square. It can be done but I cheated, chucked it in the lathe. Benj liked that too.
I'm torn between drilling and tapping the end of the barrel for a fiber bead (I'll likely finally do that) opposed to one of the plastic clip on beads quite popular today.

We'll finish it up soon and I'll post a final pic. Maybe some skeet shooting too, it's fun and requires a bit of technique with a pistol grip shorty. At the least it suddenly made the old 20 ga. something of interest for a little while. It's snake time around here and they are out big time.
