I read a "news" article this morning ...

in which they said that this guy had a "small arsenal" in his home. Turns out he had an "AK47" ... a "shotgun and a pistol" plus 200 rounds of ammunition!

Wow! 200 rounds. That's like a couple hours of shooting at the range.

The police chief wasn't much better. He described the AK47 as being able to shoot through engine blocks.

-sigh-

Years ago when I was writing for Gun Week fairly regularly they used to put on Seminars for reporters and authors. In the classes they taught proper terminology, proper gun handling etc. Then they would take them out on the range and starting with .22's have them shoot all types of handguns and rifle.

It was always hard to get many reporters to attend.

I guess if you know it all already, why bother?

I'm not certain a .50 BMG will shoot "through"

an engine block reliably. It will shoot through a 55 gal. drum of sand most of the time with standard ball ammo. Usually 2-3 out of 5 rounds, but just barely.

50 BMG penetration

While the round will shoot through a lot of stuff, the way the M2 gets penetration is multiple rounds impacting in basically the same place and it just chews its way through.

You need at least 8 feet of dirt between you and a machine gunner who is hammering at you.

I watched the ROK Air Force sight in the 50's on their F86's. They would chew a huge hole into an embankment with all those guns going.

I can sure see that, 2 in one hole is about 6 ft.!

I remember years ago I heard that a .357 Magnum would crack an engine block.

I was 15 years old ... heard that ..

on a news broadcast.

I went out and shot into an old Chevy 6 engine from about 6 feet. The bullet hit the block and when back past my head at high velocity! Would've killed me if it hit me.

That was when I learned that the "news" was put on by SRP (Stupid Retarded People) and I have never trusted them since.

We were shooting at the Fair grounds once after the demo

derby. We did not want to shoot any engines but took liberty to try a few doors. A .357 will not reliably shoot through a car door. It depends on what it hits in the door. If the window is rolled down that greatly diminishes penetration, coupled with the possibility of hitting any metal mechanisms that power said window either mechanically or manually. It usually went through one door as most did not have windows in them, but usually bounced off the second door. We were shooting 158 gr. SWC propelled by Unique and 2400.

There are lots of variables trying to hide behind a car and getting shot at. I'd want to be up front where the motor is, and keep my head down, feet behind that steel wheel.

the best place to be is in the next county .. or state ..

About 20 years ago a friend had a single shot 50 BMG. We fired one shot at railroad iron from 50 yards. Went right through.

THAT ALMOST BLEW HIS HEAD OFF
SHOT SOME SLAP ROUNDS RIGHT THROUGH A FIRE HYDRANT

The AP rounds w/the tungsten core would easily.

I would find tungsten cores lying on the ground downrange after being shot through armored vehicles that other than being stripped of its jacket and lead showed no sign deformation. I got some laying around here somewhere I need post a pic.

BY THEIR STANDARDS I AM A WALIKNG ARSENAL
