Reeder Custom Guns - Spurred on by Gary's late success and so many

of my friends using the .454 Casull over the years I find I kind of wanted one again. Gary used one of his fine conversions in .454 to take that massive African Buffalo this Spring! What a Misfit story for the archives. James has done some good work with it over the years in FA platforms. I recall reading some of his adventures. Also I remember seeing Jim Taylor shoot things with the then new FA 83 in .454, it was quite dramatic. Last one I had was a Taurus DA that ATE MY HAND UP. I sold it not long ago. It was fantastic loaded lighter. Doug had several FA guns that I drooled over except for magnifying my sloppy reloading, they sure do shoot.

A friend of mine in N.C. had a Premier M83 that he offered very reasonable since it had a rubber grip on it. He said it would have sold long ago if it had a wood grip on it! I guess at casual glance many would think it was the less expensive "Field Grade" model. (Never understood that, how expensive is brushed finish compared to bead blasting?) I looked on the FA Web page and Bob lists the Premier M83 at over $3000 now!!! So I had to have it and helped my friend out by paying him for the .454.

I am still on my bender clearing out room in my gun safe(s) and stocks of common long gun fodder that are not special. How many beater shotguns and ML does a guy really need? The splurge on the FA was one late result of my house cleaning.

I sure do need Uncle Gary to do a Gunfighter job on it and a set of proper grips. As soon as it lights in my little sweaty hands...

with lighter loads in Doug's FA was not a fun or fruitful experience. I did get them to work but had a heck of a time getting .454 to fit afterward. It required a very thorough scrubbing. Duh

Also we once had a Taurus in .454 that had an almost undetectable bulge in the barrel just ahead of the forcing cone. We were finally able to see a slight doughnut in the bore looking from the back end. We figured someone shot the core out of a thin jacketed bullet and pushed it out with a second one. I have read it happens.

work on it for Michael Mendes. When Michael offered me the 454 for the Cape Buffalo I had my second thoughts about it. It took a 500 grain Hornady soft point doing almost 2000 fps to put my last one down and looking at the 454 round in my hand made me wonder if I could do this. Then as always John Taffin's BULLET PLACEMENT convinced me we could do it.

We put a new longer barrel on Michael's 454, along with a muzzle brake. It had an action job and had no front sight. Between the adrenalin rush and the muzzle brake I never felt the recoil at all. And shot 2 rounds within maybe 5 or 6 seconds. I can do the gun work for you and get the gun much more manageable but you are going to have to furnish the adrenalin and the bullet placement.

For those not in the know, all my gear, guns, clothes, everything, were stolen in Qatar and I had to hunt in borrowed clothes, borrowed guns and ammo and as there were no boots to fit me that I could borrow, I hunted the whole time in my house shoes that I had worn on that long 30 hour flight.

The Golden Wildebeest is a very unusual variation of the Wildebeest species and as far as I know is only available in the Kalahari Desert. Thanks to Erik's generosity I was able to take what John said was the only Golden Wildebeest ever taken with a handgun.

If your looking for a new or used Freedom Arms I suggest looking on Guns America, a place called First Stop out of South Dakota usually has new and used at probably the best prices around. I've done business with them and never had a problem, and they offer layaway which is how I buy stuff.

Always good service to me. They only had one under $2k (out of a dozen) and it was not one I'd have been interested in. A guy does have to shop around. Best deals are from friends when they have them. I got one for what he paid a couple yrs ago used. Not many deals like that around right now. He just needed fast cash.

Your rig will bring an easy $2k right now. A base Premiere on Bob's site is listed at $3040! Your field grade is based at $2590 with no options (not outfitted like yours). I think some guys are panic buying snapping up stuff they want, while it's available, even at the inflated costs.

I saw a used but clean Browning Safari II .30-06 (sort of plain, no scope anything) go for $1500! Another guy has a NIB one for $2500! Maybe they know something I don't. I'm keeping my older Belgium .338 anyway.

All my trade pieces are beaters anyway. A few days ago I sold a few pieces to my dealer friend who was begging me. I left with a sizeable stack of Benjamins. I made money and he was going to make even more! Things are crazy. No way could I have done anywhere that good on GB. All the hassle of shipping, taxes, emails, tracking numbers, etc.

You might parley yours into some serious coin or trading. The late CA semi-auto ruling is going to upturn that market for sure.
