Here in the part of Oklahoma I live in the old 30-30 ruled deer hunting for years and years most shots are not more than a hundred yards but now everyone except the old guys that have sense think you need a .300 mag or .338 of some sort or better yet a 6.5 Creedmore to shoot these long distance shots on a hundred pound Whitetail. It's pretty silly really, they buy high dollar rifles and scopes for something an iron sighted Winchester or Marlin could handle. The old .243, .270 and '06 will do anything most people do. I do all my hunting with an old 1895 Marlin in .45-70 with a 2x Leupold scope, and it's a joy to carry and I know there's nothing out there that the old antique round can't handle especially within 100 yards.
