WB, When you mentioned Al Goerg`s other
book "Pacific and Northwest Hunting" (in the post below) I always remember reading how he had a half of a penny soldered onto his .25 auto for a front sight along a rifle "V" notch rear that he used for his 20 yard grouse gun all those years ago... Amazing..........
I have a little Astra 200 FireCat
Everyone that shoots it is amazed. It's quite accurate and easy to hit reasonable targets. If the sights were bigger I could see that it would be easy to hit a chicken size critter or bunny to sneaky stalking distances. The often dismissed .25 ACP is more potent than many think. It will drill a 1/4" hole pretty deep and the guns are always reliable.
While I'm no Al Goerg it would be fun to try it to humanely take a small critter for the pot.
JD Jones also wrote of some early connection to a .25 Auto. Myself, my first real centerfire handgun was a Beretta M1919 made in 1934, it had Waffen stamps on it too.
Funny how some odd guns influence us early on. Gary told of his dad having this cheap .22 Short revolver. I have one just like it, an RG. A friend shot himself through the index finger with it and I still have it (Super-X 29 gr. HP). They were afraid to go to the hospital as they knew the cops would be called. Tylenol and hydrogen peroxide fixed it. Leonard died of lung cancer 3-4 yrs. afterward. He smoked a bunch.
my Dad's little RG was a 22 LR and I saw him time and again
hit rabbits out to 20 yards with it. I bought it for him in 1963 from a gun shop in Paducah Ky. I think I paid $19.95 for it. After hundreds of rounds the barrel came loose and began to turn on him. I don't know what he did with it but it wasn't in his batch of guns when he died.

This one has a nickel frame though. It's a real POS but I have never known it not to fire. Surprisingly it does not seem to spit lead either. The cylinder pin is hollow and the ejector rod slides down it like a sheath to thread into the recoil shield for safe keeping. You unscrew it and poke out empties single action style, through the loading gate.
Yours looks pretty nice. Sometimes just having a gun of some kind instills peace. Not many folks "want" to actually get shot with anything! Those little pieces had their place.
